38FEST2015: Battle on Fosse Way: A VBCW Batrep, AAR.

Well here is my Batrep for the 38FEST15. I used A World Aflame rules, which I found very playable and I particularly like the limited ammunition rules. Great game, great concept.

The Field of Play

No. 1 and 2 Platoons TAB along the Fosse Way
"CONTACT!"
A platoon of Socialist Militia, plus the lead elements
of an AL Company.

"3 Platoon, right flanking to seize Brookfield Farm"
"No. 1 Platoon. Enemy 100 yards, to your front, three rounds.
Rapid FIRE!"
The effect of withering, accurate fire!
Two sections wiped out.
The third section wins the race to Brookfield Farm

No. 2 section left flanks to secure Grange Farm, which has already been taken by 2 platoons of AL.

Havildar Baljit Kaal, attempts to pin down the militia with one section, whilst attempting
to flank  the farm with number two section.
SMG fire takes its toll on No. 1 section.

Suffering heavy casualties 3 platoon fall back.

No. 1 Platoon, engages in a fire fight with the platoons within Grange Farm.
The third AL platoon files into Brookfield Farm to support the Militia.

No. 3 platoon encounter Havildar Major Amarjot Singh Aulakh

Who inspires them to re-engage the far.
Preventing them from adding their support to the defenders of Grange Farm

A vicious firefight, at Grange Farm, decimates  No 2 platoon.
Captain Matthew Rosewood bolsters their morale and leads the survivors
to the safety of Bridge Farm. Securing it for the King.

Running out of ammo, the Militia's will is broken and they rout.

A fatal error!
Spurred on by the retreat of 2 Plt LPR. No. 1 Platoon St.John's Company AL give chase.
Winning the firefight, No. 1 platoon, now led by the Company OC (Maj. Richard Beresford),
 assaults Grange Farm.
The platoon assaults  through the farmhouse, finishing off what is left of the defenders
and falls on the remaining AL platoon. Bayonets and butts are the order of the day.

Not realising that the defenders of Brookfield Farm are broken and cowering.
The Havildar Major withdraws the platoon to the company position.

After securing the stolen jewels in Grange Farm  and with prisoners in tow
Maj. Beresford withdraws the company to barracks.

'O' Group: 'B' Company 1st Paneer Rifles.

Major Richard BERESFORD finished the last of his tea, put the tin mug down and walked from his billet to the Company's Operations tent. As he entered the assembled hierarchy rose to their feet.

"Gentlemen, gentlemen. Please be seated," he said, walking passed them.

They sat, shuffled about and settled down.

"Gentlemen. Orders."

Captain Rosewood: You will signify the beginning of phase two by two short blasts on your whistle.
2 & 3 Platoons: You will create a defensive screen at the fence lines of your farms.

'B' Company; The Loyal Paneer Rifles

This week's post from the muster station is a pleasing one, for me. I have finally finished my Royalist company for the 38Fest2015 game.

For your appraisal I present 'B' Company; 1st Battalion; The Loyal Paneer Rifles. Under command of Major Richard Beresford and his 2 i/c Matthew Rosewood. Havildar Major Amarjot Singh with '1' , '2' and '3' platoons commanded by Havildars: Dal Singh, Ranveer Singh and Baljit Kaal. (if anyone out there knows Sikh naming conventions and could correct any mistakes please do tell me.) I have given each platoon a Havildar commander as opposed to any higher rank, well, 'cause I can.

All that's needed is to add their banners and they're ready for the off. So I'll be fighting the battle of Fosse Way, as requested, in May.

A very kind offer from Wayne (aka Shintokamikazie) at http://republictheirishwarofindependence.blogspot.co.uk is winging it's way across the Irish Sea which should speed up the fight. (NB his site and you tube video on building card models is well worth a visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVZlumhNycSDOJJkj3-RFjw )

Hope it is as sunny where you are as it is here, enjoy your weekend. Rugby semi-finals for me if I'm lucky.

Thanks for stopping by.

38fest2015: This Sceptred Isle: Anglican League/Socialist Plans

The lazy sods didn't get up 'til nearly lunchtime. So I managed to design the 'Red' Forces plans.

Well here they are for your consideration.

There are a couple of interesting permutations here. Once the field is laid I may have to play more then one game.

With these done and it being International TableTop Day I'm going to try and get in a quick 'Patrol' game. We'll see.

Tally Ho.

Rob

38fest2015: This Sceptred Isle: Royalist Plans

As I continue to muster my Royalist forces for this game, 'A' Company 1st Paneer Rifles, just some finishing touches required. I thought I'd have them completed today but chauffeuring the heirs after work took up too much painting time.

As I will play this scenario solo I designed three plans of action for each set of forces. Then on the day of the game I throw a d6 and apply those sets of orders.

So for this week's post I thought I'd share the Royalist set.

Now, if I get the time I may post the 'Reds' orders group. But what with Saturday chores to do and the possibility of watching The National at ones club it may not happen.

Thanks for popping by; enjoy the race, the golf, the footy, rugger or what ever your weekend holds. If you're working, keep safe.

A bit of something and 38 FEST 2015.

Now usually if I want a piece of terrain I'd scratch build it. However, last year I got a gift card for a local hobby store. Sadly, this place was geared really to trains and RC models. As such I picked up a couple of Dalpol packs (I'm sure they're old Airfix molds so there was a nostalgic element involved). I spent last week sorting them out. I think this little building will appear in many of my scenarios. It has that 'I can be anything quality'; an Inn, a cottage, a farmhouse etc.

I thought I'd have a plunge into PazerKaput's http://panzerkaput.blogspot.co.uk/ ,VCBW 38FEST2015 details below. I have an idea for a scenario, so I'll be building up the terrain and troops for this table and playing the game come May.

When and Where is this Taking Place
38Fest2015: This Spectred Isle is going to take place over the whole month of May, actually the last game need to be finished by 30th May, to enable us to prepare for the Partizan game, and it is open to everyone, no matter how large or small your VBCW forces are and whatever scale you fight in. There are no sets of rules that we are going to say you have to play with, play with what you like. All anyone needs to do is to play the scenario in the month of May and notify me of the result of the game, Red win or Blue Win, Which Farms were control of who and who found some of the Crown Jewels. You can do this by either posting to Very British Civil Forum, http://vbcf.freeforums.org/ or email me personally. Also if you can take photos of the game and post them on the Very British Civil Forum with a bit of a write up of the battle, that would be nice but it is not a requirement to play the game.

So please pop by again to see how I'm getting on.
